Which Chaos Space Marines Combat Patrol should you buy?
Game facts checked 29 October 2026. Prices and stock are read live.
We list five Chaos Space Marines Combat Patrols, and they differ in the units in the box: Night Lords have a jump-pack Lord with Chosen and Legionaries, Iron Warriors have Terminators and Havocs, Red Corsairs have mutant Fellgors and Emperor's Children have duellists. The standard box has the most miniatures, 26. Pick the box whose units you would buy anyway.
The Night Lords box is £82.95 and is sold out at the moment. All five were described on Warhammer Community, Games Workshop's news site, before the 11th edition began, so check that the box you want has Combat Patrol rules in the Warhammer 40,000 app.

Who each box suits
Night Lords if you want a close-range force with a Night Lords look. The Legionaries come with Night Lords details, including winged helmets.
Iron Warriors if you want a disciplined force. They take a practical, resilient approach, and the box mixes Terminators and Legionaries for close work with Havocs for range. It adds an upgrade frame and two transfer sheets, and at 21 miniatures it is second only to the standard box.
Red Corsairs if you like a rough mixed warband. Ten Fellgor Ravagers are mutant beasts who fight in close combat beside the renegade Space Marines.
Emperor's Children if you want a melee force built around duelling. The army aims to close with its foe, and the box holds one leader and 16 infantry.
The standard box if you want the most models and the least theme. It has Cultists, Legionaries, Possessed and a Master of Possessions.
Two of the boxes and the 11th edition detachments
A Warhammer Community preview on 8 May 2026 showed three new Chaos Space Marines detachments (sets of army rules) for the 11th edition. Two match boxes we list.
- Devotees of Destruction is described as Iron Warriors-themed. It gives Havocs and Obliterators a special rule, and the Iron Warriors box holds five Havocs.
- Murdertalon Raiders is described as Night Lords-themed and rewards infantry that can fly. The Night Lords box alone does not cover it. Our Night Lords page covers what to add.
Which Legion is easiest to paint
One r/Warhammer40k thread on the easiest Chaos Legion to paint ended in disagreement. Replies called Iron Warriors easy, with a metal base and a yellow Contrast paint for the trim, and also the hardest because of the yellow and black hazard stripes. Emperor's Children drew praise for having little trim and complaints about painting pink and the jewel details.
The more edging on the armour, the longer a squad takes, whichever Legion you choose. Look at the box art.
Two of these boxes also make a kill team
The Red Corsairs and Night Lords boxes come with the miniatures needed for a full kill team (Warhammer Community, 23 February 2026). Kill Team is the skirmish game, played with small teams. The Nemesis Claw kill team is in stock and uses the same Night Lords look.
Common questions
Which Chaos Space Marines Combat Patrol has the most models?
The standard Chaos Space Marines box has 26 miniatures. Iron Warriors is next with 21. Night Lords, Red Corsairs and Emperor's Children each hold 17.
Can I use a Chaos Combat Patrol as the start of a bigger army?
A Chaos Combat Patrol works as the first step into a larger army: Warhammer Community describes Combat Patrol as the core of a faction and a way into a larger collection. Add Havocs, Possessed or Chosen as you go.
Are Red Corsairs a Chaos Space Marines army?
Close enough to count: Warhammer Community lists the box under Chaos Space Marines, and it is built around renegade Space Marines, a Reave-Captain and five Raiders. It adds ten Fellgor Ravagers, who are mutant beasts, so it is a mixed force.
