Which Space Marine Combat Patrol should you buy?

Game facts checked 29 October 2026. Prices and stock are read live.

Short answer

Buy the chapter box whose models you want to paint. If you cannot get that box, or you want paints in the box, buy Getting Started with Space Marines, the 11th edition start. We list four chapter boxes: Dark Angels, Space Wolves, Black Templars and Grey Knights. Check the stock column in the table below before you plan around one. All four were announced before the 11th edition began.

Getting Started with Space Marines is £86.11 (RRP £109.00) and is in stock.

Warhammer Community, Games Workshop's news site, described the Dark Angels box in February 2024 and the other three in July 2025. Model counts add up the units in those articles.

How each chapter box plays

  • Dark Angels lean on shooting: ten Intercessors and five Hellblasters, with three Bladeguard Veterans for the melee.
  • Space Wolves have the most models of the four, 21. Warhammer Community called the box one of the most potent close combat forces in Combat Patrol.
  • Black Templars lean to melee too. Warhammer Community called the Bladeguard and Sword Brethren very stabby indeed.
  • Grey Knights are the smallest box, at 17. Five Terminators, a ten-man Strike Squad and a Dreadnought make a small elite force.

Colour is the other half of the decision, and our page on choosing a chapter covers that.

Getting Started with Space Marines instead

The Getting Started with Space Marines box is a full Combat Patrol plus 11 paints, a brush, a texture spreader and a faction booklet. Its models are push-fit and need no glue. Its Space Marines Assault Force is the same Combat Patrol that ships inside the Armageddon launch box and the Warhammer 40,000 Starter Set.

Choose it if you want one purchase that gets you painting and playing.

Do the chapter boxes work in the app?

The Combat Patrol rules in the Warhammer 40,000 app are free. At launch on 23 July 2026 the app covered the core Combat Patrol range first, with older sets to follow. Games Workshop did not say which boxes count as core. So we cannot tell you whether the four chapter boxes are in the app yet. They all date from before the 11th edition. Look for your faction in its Combat Patrol section, or read our app page.

Common questions

Five Wulfen, ten Blood Claws, five Wolf Guard Terminators and a Wolf Guard Battle Leader, Fyrri Askar. There is also a transfer sheet of 419 decals. That is 21 miniatures. The box is sold out at the moment.

What is in the Black Templars Combat Patrol?

Which Space Marine Combat Patrol needs no glue?

Getting Started with Space Marines is the push-fit, no-glue box. Warhammer Community does not say the chapter boxes are push-fit, so assume they need plastic glue.
