Which Warhammer 40,000 Combat Patrol should you buy first?
Every Combat Patrol here is £82.95 to £86.11 (RRP £105.00 to £109.00), so choose by the army, not the price. Right now 2 of our 26 are in stock, shown below.
With a friend who is starting too, the Starter Set gives you two armies in one box.
What a Combat Patrol is
Each box is a small starting army for one faction. The rules are in Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 app. The Combat Patrol Companion (£17.00) is a 184-page book of introductory guides for new players.

How to choose
Start with the models you like the look of. If a friend already plays an army, pick one that makes a good opponent. Then check the stock above, because that may decide it. If you can't choose, the Starter Set holds Space Marines and Orks together, so you can try both.
Combat Patrol or Starter Set?
A Combat Patrol is one faction. The Starter Set holds two armies, with boards, terrain, dice and the Core Rulebook, so it suits two new players. On your own, or with an opponent who already has models, one Combat Patrol is the better start. The Getting Started with Space Marines box is a Combat Patrol with paints and a brush added, at £86.11.
Once the first box is built and painted, a second box of the same army is a good next step: you'll already have the paints and the colour scheme. Our paints and tools guide covers the painting side.
Common questions
What Combat Patrol should I buy first?
The one for the army you most want to paint. Our Combat Patrol boxes are £82.95 to £86.11 each, so the models should decide it.
Are Warhammer 40k Combat Patrols good value for beginners?
Yes. One box is a small army, and here each is £82.95 to £86.11 against an RRP of £105.00 to £109.00.
Do I need a rulebook to play a Combat Patrol game?
Not for the rules. Games Workshop says the Combat Patrol rules in its Warhammer 40,000 app are free, with no rulebook or Codex needed. The app launched with the current core Combat Patrol boxes and support for older boxes is still to come, so check the app for your army. The 184-page Combat Patrol Companion (£17.00) adds introductory guides and tips, if you'd like a book.
