What Warhammer gift can I buy for under £100?
Under £100 you can buy one army, or one side of an Age of Sigmar game, but not both. For a beginner in sci-fi, Getting Started with Space Marines at £86.11 is the one army here that comes with paint. A Combat Patrol arrives without paint, and adding a Paints and Tools set brings it to £108.94, which is over £100.
What each box gives you, and what it lacks
| Gift | What you get | What is missing |
|---|---|---|
| Getting Started with Space Marines £86.11, in stock | A full Combat Patrol, 11 paints, a brush, a texture spreader and a booklet. All push-fit. | An opponent with models. The rules are a free download. |
| A Combat Patrol £82.95 to £86.11 | A ready-made small army for one faction. | Paint, a brush and tools. The listings do not include them. The 11th Edition Paints and Tools set adds them and is sold out at the moment. |
| A Spearhead box for Age of Sigmar £75.05 (Khainite Shadow Coven shown) | One side's force for a fast small game on a board a quarter the size of a full one. | A second box for the other side, and a gaming pack for the board and cards. |
Getting Started is the better first gift: the paint is in the box and the models need no glue. A Combat Patrol plus a Paints and Tools set does the same job for more money.
Which suits whom
- A beginner who likes sci-fi: Getting Started, in the army they prefer. We list Space Marines and Orks, and the Orks box is sold out at the moment.
- Someone who already paints and plays: a Combat Patrol for the faction they want next. They own the paint and tools.
- A fantasy fan with a friend who plays: a Spearhead box, but check which Spearhead the friend has. Two armies are needed, one per side. For a complete fantasy game in a single box, see gifts under £50.
- Two people starting together: the Starter Set, which holds two armies, boards, terrain, dice and the Core Rulebook. It costs more than £100 (£126.40), so a smaller gift now and the Starter Set later is also reasonable.
What goes wrong at this price
The first mistake is a Combat Patrol on its own for a beginner, who opens it to find unpainted plastic and no paint. The second is the wrong faction, which you can only avoid by asking. If you cannot ask, a Getting Started box is the lowest-risk buy, because the paint and brush come with the models.
Common questions
Does a Warhammer Combat Patrol come with paint?
Our Combat Patrol listings do not list paint, a brush or tools. Add a Paints and Tools set (the 11th Edition one is £22.83 and sold out at the moment), or buy a Getting Started box, which includes them.
Is a Spearhead box a complete game for Age of Sigmar?
A Spearhead box is one side's force, so a game needs a second box for the opponent and a gaming pack for the board and cards. What Spearhead is and what it needs has the detail. Spearhead is a small game on a board a quarter of the usual size.
Is the 11th Edition Starter Set too expensive for a gift under £100?
At £126.40 it costs more than £100, so it does not fit. It gives two armies, boards, terrain, dice and the Core Rulebook. A Getting Started box is the nearest gift under £100.
