A Space Marine and an Ork are not the same amount of work to build and paint, so a model count is only a guide. It does show that two boxes at one price are not equal.
How to compare two boxes before you buy
- Find the unit list. Our Combat Patrol listings carry a code and no contents, so use Games Workshop's own pages. The Getting Started listings do name every unit.
- Count what you will have to build and paint. Twenty Boyz are a different job from a squad of five Intercessors.
- Check the army is supported in the Warhammer 40,000 app. On 23 July 2026 Games Workshop said the app would first cover the core Combat Patrol for each army, with older boxes to follow.
- Pick the army you will enjoy painting. After the first three checks, that decides it.
Prices and points
One Reddit thread on this question, from April 2026, said the boxes are priced roughly alike but are not balanced on points, the numbers games use to size an army.
