Which box fits you
- You own nothing yet: the Introductory Set. The models come off the frame by hand, and the six paints are Kantor Blue, Retributor Armour, Leadbelcher, Rakarth Flesh, Khorne Red and Steel Legion Drab. You can build and start painting the day it arrives.
- You paint already, or a friend does: the Starter Set. It has the heroes and monsters the smaller box lacks, such as the Grey Seer and the Rat Ogors, and a longer handbook. If it is a gift, check the recipient owns clippers and paints, because the box has neither.
- You want to play Spearhead: add a gaming pack, because neither box has the cards. What Spearhead is and what it needs has the detail.
- You only like one of the two armies: skip both boxes. A faction paint set or a Spearhead box gets you that army without paying for the other half.
What a ready-to-paint start costs
The Introductory Set is ready to build and paint at £34.76. The Starter Set has no paints, brush or clippers, so add the Paints and Tools Set (13 paints, a brush, clippers and a mouldline scraper). The two together come to £79.80.
Our page on the Paints and Tools Set covers who needs it and what it costs with each box.
Common questions
Do I need clippers for the Age of Sigmar Starter Set?
Games Workshop's launch description says clippers are needed to cut the 35 push-fit models from the frame, and that no paints or brush are included. The Introductory Set models come off the frame without clippers or glue.
Can two people play straight from the Introductory Set?
Two people can play with what is in the box: a Stormcast force and a Skaven force, a mat, a range ruler and six dice. The handbook's scenarios take you through the basics. The forces are small, so expect short games.
How much is the Age of Sigmar Starter Set in the UK?
Our price is £57.28 against an RRP of £72.50, a saving of 21%. It is in stock. Delivery is free in the UK on orders of £20 or more.
Is the Starter Set the same as the Skaventide box?
They are different boxes. Skaventide was the launch box for that edition, with dozens of models, the kit for Spearhead battles and the Core Book. The Starter Set holds 35 models and a handbook.
