What is in the Age of Sigmar Paints and Tools Set, and who needs it?
Set contents checked 29 October 2026.
The Age of Sigmar Paints and Tools Set holds 13 paints, a brush, clippers and a mouldline scraper, for £22.52. You need it with the Starter Set, which has no paints, brush or clippers.
You do not need it with the Introductory Set, which already has a brush and six paints and needs no clippers. Games Workshop's list has no primer or glue, so buy those separately.

Which starter route needs it
| Route | Brush, paints, clippers? | Add the Paints and Tools Set? |
|---|---|---|
| Introductory Set, £34.76 | A starter brush and 6 named paints. No clippers needed. | Only once you buy more models. Together they cost £57.28. |
| Starter Set, £57.28 | No brush, paints or clippers in the box, and the models need clippers. | Yes. Together they cost £79.80. |
| Stormcast Eternals or Skaven paint set, £18.57 | A brush, 6 paints and models to practise on | Not at first. Add it when you build a full army. |
Is it enough?
For a first box, yes. A new buyer on r/ageofsigmar asked whether the set would last through a big box. The replies said the paint does not run out, because thin coats go a long way, and suggested adding more colours and a second, finer brush.
Add a spray primer too. The set has none, and painting straight onto bare plastic uses more paint and covers less well. Browse the paints collection and brushes and tools, or read our paints and tools guide for the order to buy in.
Not the Warhammer 40,000 set
The Paints and Tools set for Warhammer 40,000 is a separate product. Its 11th Edition listing, Paints & Tools: Warhammer 40,000, names its own 13 colours, and it is sold out at the moment here.
