Can you use your 10th edition models and boxes in 11th edition Warhammer 40,000?
Checked against Games Workshop articles dated 26 March to 25 September 2026.
Yes for models still on sale. Games Workshop said that for the most part datasheets work as they did in 10th edition. What changed is what surrounds the datasheets: points have changed, your codex may have been replaced, and the app only follows 11th edition. Rules printed in a 10th edition box describe the old game.
What carries over
| Thing you own | Still good in 11th? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Models and datasheets | Yes, for models still on sale | Datasheets mostly work as before, with tweaks: some aircraft and Leader abilities changed in the June 2026 Faction Pack downloads |
| Your codex | At launch, yes | Current codexes were valid at launch, and new ones have started to arrive |
| Detachments in that codex | Yes | Games Workshop said they still work, alongside 70-plus new and updated ones |
| Old points and army lists | No | Points were updated across the game in June 2026 |
| 10th edition Core Book or box handbook | For the old game only | Rules such as cover and charging changed |
| The Warhammer 40,000 app | 11th edition only | The updated app does not support older editions |
| Old mission decks | Not for 11th missions | 11th edition missions depend on how you build your army, which earlier mission packs ignored |
An older Combat Patrol box
The models in it still go on the table wherever their datasheets carry over, but the app may not cover the box yet. Games Workshop's 23 July 2026 post said app support begins with one current Combat Patrol per army, the one in stores. Older sets were on the way. If you own an older box, check that the app covers your army before you plan around it.
The 10th Edition Introductory Set we list
Our listing is for the previous edition: WARHAMMER 40000: INTRODUCTORY SET (10th Edition), £33.58 (in stock). It holds five Infernus Space Marines, ten Termagants and a Ripper Swarm, a 48-page handbook, a game mat, clippers, a brush, six dice, a ruler and five paints.
Buy it if you want those models at that price. The handbook describes 10th edition rules, and the new 11th edition Introductory Set Games Workshop previewed on 5 July 2026 is a different box. It holds a Space Marine Lieutenant, five Intercessors, an Ork Nob and five Boyz. For rules that match the box, pick the Starter Set (£126.40) or a Getting Started set.

Before you build a list
- Look up each unit's points in the current Munitorum Field Manual, Games Workshop's points list. Old numbers are out of date.
- Decide where your datasheets come from. If your army has had a new codex, use that one. If the app does not cover an older box yet, use your codex.
- For discontinued models, ask your club or store before you build around one. We found no 11th edition statement from Games Workshop about rules for models it no longer sells.
Common questions
Is my 10th edition Combat Patrol still usable in 11th edition?
The models are, because datasheets mostly work as before. Games Workshop said the app starts with one current Combat Patrol per army and that older boxes would follow. Until then, check each unit's datasheet in your codex or the app, and its points in the current Munitorum Field Manual.
Will my old army list still work in 11th edition?
Not as written. Points were updated across the game in June 2026, and detachments, the sets of army rules you choose, now cost Detachment Points. Your models still work, so rebuild the list from current points and your army's detachments.
Is the 10th edition Introductory Set still worth buying?
For the models, yes, if the price suits you. For the rules, no: the handbook in it covers 10th edition. The 11th edition Starter Set or a Getting Started set gives you rules that match the current game.
Do I need to throw away my 10th edition Core Book?
Keep it for reference or for playing the old game. Just do not learn 11th edition from it, because rules such as cover and charging changed. The core rules for 11th edition are a free download.
Can I use models I bought years ago?
Models still on sale are covered by datasheets that mostly work as before. For models Games Workshop no longer sells, ask the people you play with before you build a list around one.
