Which Battle March army box should you buy for Warhammer: The Old World?
Box facts checked 29 October 2026.
Buy the army you most want to paint, then check how many figures the box holds. Empire of Man and Beastmen Brayherds hold the most figures. High Elf Realms and Wood Elf Realms hold far fewer.
Games Workshop designed these boxes to get players into Battle March. You still need the rulebook and the army list book that holds your army's rules.

Contents are from our own listings. The playstyle line is Games Workshop's description from its 17 July 2026 announcement.
| Box | In the box | How Games Workshop describes it |
|---|---|---|
| Empire of Man, £80.99 (in stock) | 1 Commander of the Empire, 20 State Troops, 10 State Missile Troops, 10 Empire Archers, 10 Flagellants, 5 Pistoliers. | A classic regiment of disciplined troops, with plenty of gunpowder and some fast cavalry support. |
| Beastmen Brayherds, £81.00 (in stock) | 1 Beastman Chieftain, 1 Beastman Shaman, 10 Ungors, 10 Bestigors, 20 Gors, 10 Chaos Warhounds. | A fast and dangerous force that stampedes from the trees. |
| High Elf Realms, £81.00 (in stock) | 1 High Elf Lord, 10 Lothern Sea Guard, 5 Shadow Warriors or Sisters of Avelorn, 5 Ellyrian Reavers, 1 Lothern Skycutter, 1 Tiranoc Chariot. | Highly skilled warriors used to fighting outnumbered, and excellent in small-scale conflicts. |
| Wood Elf Realms, £56.80 (in stock) | Araloth, 10 Eternal Guard, 5 Sisters of the Thorn or Wild Riders, 8 Glade Guard or Deepwood Scouts, 4 Glade Riders. | Swift but powerful attacks, deadly in smaller-scale battles. |
Which one suits you
Beastmen Brayherds is the one to charge in with: three blocks of infantry, a leader, a shaman and hounds. Our listing describes the army's focus as shock, disruption and brute force.
Empire of Man gives you a bit of everything. It has infantry, two kinds of shooters, flagellants and cavalry in one box, and it is the largest of the four in figures.
For fewer figures, look at High Elf Realms or Wood Elf Realms. Both hold far fewer figures than the Empire box: 23 and 28 against 56. Wood Elf Realms costs £56.80 and High Elf Realms £81.00, so weigh the price against the figure count. If you are undecided, take the one whose figures you would not mind painting for a month.
Before you order
- Pick up the rulebook and the army list book for your faction. The Old World shopping list shows which book goes with which box.
- Add paints and glue, because the figures come unpainted and some assembly may be required.
- Look at the full Old World collection if your army is not here.
Common questions
Is a Battle March box enough for a game on its own?
Not quite. The box is one army, so you also need an opponent with another, plus the books on the Old World shopping list.
Which Battle March box has the most figures?
The Empire of Man box, with 56 figures by our listing's contents, ahead of Beastmen Brayherds at 52. The elf boxes hold far fewer: 23 for High Elf Realms and 28 for Wood Elf Realms.
Can I use a Battle March box in a bigger Old World army?
Games Workshop's studio team built some Battle March forces as the start of a larger collection and others drawn from much larger armies, so a box can grow into a bigger army.
Do I need the Battle March: General's Companion?
It is an optional expansion. It adds a six-scenario campaign, more scenario maps, random happenings and magic items costing 5 to 30 points. The updated rulebook already contains the Battle March rules.
Is there a Battle March box for every Old World army?
Not for every army. Games Workshop announced five boxes on 17 July 2026: Empire of Man, Beastmen Brayherds, Orc and Goblin Tribes, High Elf Realms and Wood Elf Realms. Warriors of Chaos and Grand Cathay boxes followed in August. We list the Empire of Man, Beastmen Brayherds, High Elf Realms and Wood Elf Realms boxes.
